Match report Broomleys travelled to an in-form Barwell for the first match of the weekend. Batting first, Neil Brotherhood & David Wick had to contend with some fierce bowling from Dewan & Kevin Hines, which saw Brotherhood out caught behind by Roach in the second over without scoring. David Bates & David Wick weathered the storm & built up a 40 run partnership before Bates was bowled by Nick Hines in the 19th over. Wick was out 2 overs later having reached 25, leaving Broomleys struggling on 54 for 3. Mark Pearce & Maurice Newman tried to push the pace along, with Newman facing the majority of the balls bowled. The pair put on 28 before Pearce was out in the 29th over. Stands of 13 runs for the 5th wicket & 17 runs for the 6th wicket took Broomleys to 112 for 6 after 35 overs. Kevin Joyce & Aaron Smith the came together and put on 41 runs to take them past 150. Kevin Joyce was finally out having scored a magnificent 38 runs from 30 balls, which included 5 fours & 1 six. The younger members of the team then showed their courage, batting out the final 4 overs and taking the team past 166 to gain another 2 batting points. Aaron Smith finished the innings on 10 not out & wicket-keeper, Jake Robinson 6 not out, giving the Barwell batsmen a target of 173 to win the match.
Broomleys had the ideal start with Aaron Smith taking his 1st first-team wicket in his second over to dismiss Kevin Hines, helped by a catch by Lee Chiswell. Baker & Geoff Hines for Barwell were undaunted though & put on 59 runs before Kevin Joyce bowled Baker who had scored 42. The following ball, Joyce had another breakthrough when he bowled Richard Page for 0, but he was unable to take the 3rd wicket for his hat-trick. Hines & Norris made a stand of 69 to take Barwell to 138 in 29 overs. Broomleys had the consolation of taking 2 more wickets, but it was to be Barwell who ran out winners in the 35th over, with Dewan hitting the winning runs with an astonishing 33 from 18 balls faced.
