Newtown Linford v Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 06 May 2006 at 2:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets
Match report
Broomleys travelled to Newtown Linford for their first away match of the season. Captain, Rob Hudson, won the toss and elected to bat. The game was only 6 overs old when the umpires took the sides off the pitch due to rain. They eventually restarted the match just before 4pm, having reduced the overs to 32 per side. An opening partnership of 41 between Neil Brotherhood & David Wick was finally broken when Harrison bowled Wick in the 12th over. Brotherhood continued where he left off last week, reaching his half-century from 47 balls faced, with Mark Pearce, who also scored 50 in 49 balls, joining him in the runs. When Brotherhood was out caught & bowled in the 20th over, the pair had taken the score to 90 for 3. Broomleys lost a further 2 wickets in their 32 overs, with Pearce ending on 56 not out & Maurice Newman 8 not out, giving Newtown Linford a required total of 161 to win.
The Newtown opening pair of Wood & Moult set about their task with relish, both making half-centuries in an opening stand of 110. Tight bowling by David Joyce, who bowled 7 overs for just 26, slowed the pair down, but could not stop the inevitable. When Moult was finally out for 60, bowled in the 18th over having hit 5 fours & 2 sixes in the process, Newtown still had plenty of overs to spare. Wood & Kingham finished off the victory for Newtown in the 27th over, with Wood ending on 66 not out & Kingham 31 not out
