Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI v Ibstock Town on Sun 07 May 2006 at 2:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Lost by 70 runs
Match report
Sunday saw the first leg of the League Cup played at Broomleys, against local rivals Ibstock Town. Ibstock won the toss and elected to bat. Broomleys made a decent start to their bowling attack, with Sam Chambers bowling his 6 overs for just 30 runs. Then injury struck Broomleys as captain, Rob Hudson, limped off the pitch with a knee injury having bowled 5 overs for 22, leaving Aaron Brotherhood to come on to the pitch as 12th man for the rest of the innings. Harrison & Stratfold for Ibstock punished the loose balls, and managed to put on 89 runs for the first wicket. A spell of tight bowling from Kevin Wardle, saw him take 2 wickets for just 24 runs conceded in his 8 over spell, taking 2 catches off his own bowling to dismiss Stratfold on 49 & Emery. Ibstock, who had a strong batting line-up, continued to press their advantage, and managed to amass 237 runs in their allotted 40 overs, with Harvey Mee ending the innings on 53 not out. Jack Chambers, Kevin Wardle, Andy Brotherhood & David Wick took 2 wickets each for Broomleys.
Broomleys were soon in trouble when they started to bat, loosing their opening pair for just 14 runs. Batting with a runner, Rob Hudson set about trying to even up the match, but wickets kept falling at the other end. Hudson was eventually out having scored 58 from 59 balls faced in the 23rd over with the score 105 for 5. A stout defence from Andy Brotherhood and wicket-keeper Jake Robinson ended with Robinson becoming Martin Emerys’ second wicket of the day, in the 39th over. Brotherhood also perished with one ball left in the match, leaving Jack & Sam Chambers to face the last ball, which Sam negotiated with no problem. Ibstock now have to wait to see whom they face in the next round.
