Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI v Kegworth Town on Sat 27 May 2006 at 2:00
Match was Drawn Winning draw
Match report
Rain reduced the match between Broomleys 1st XI & Kegworth Town to 32 overs per side. Kegworth won the toss and elected to field first. They were rewarded with a wicket in their 1st over, when Neil Brotherhood was caught at slip by Ashcroft off the bowling of Wade without scoring. David Bates took advantage of the conditions wherever possible but batting was not easy. Broomleys lost further wickets trying to push on with the score. David Bates batted stylishly for a well-worked 40, hitting 5 fours in the process. Captain, Rob Hudson, also batted well to reach 26 before being bowled by his opposite number, Neil Shipway, but not before he and Jamie Hart had made a 6th wicket partnership stand of 58. Hart finished the innings not out on 44 from just 40 balls faced, which included 2 fours & 3 sixes. Broomleys lost further wickets but finished on 126 for 7 from their allotted 32 overs.
As with the Broomleys innings, Kegworth lost their 1st wicket in the 1st over with David Joyce trapping Glover LBW without scoring. Joyce took his second of the match in the 5th over when he had Moorhouse caught behind by Andy Clifton. The day was to belong to his brother, Kevin Joyce, in the end. Kevin took the next 5 wickets to fall, including a catch off his own bowling, to reduce Kegworth to 108 for 7 after 30 overs. The Kegworth captain, Neil Shipway, was not ready to give the match to Broomleys, and along with Ian Dade, took the score to 116 at the end of the 31st over, leaving them requiring 11 runs to win from 6 balls. Kevin Joyce bowled the last of his 16 overs very tightly; restricting Kegworth to only 5 runs, ensuring Broomleys got a winning draw from the match. Joyce finished with excellent figures of 16 overs, 4 maidens, 5 wickets for 46 runs.
