Bitteswell v Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 03 Jun 2006 at 2:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Lost by 6 Wickets
Match report
Broomleys 1st XI travelled to Bitteswell, who are currently 2nd in Division 1 on Saturday. Having won the toss, Broomleys captain, Rob Hudson elected to bat on a green wicket. The batting was difficult due mainly to some tight bowling from Heavisides & Dand, with only 35 runs being conceded from the their first 20 overs, with the loss of 2 wickets. Playing his first match of the season, Paul Leake, settled in to help David Wick mount an attack. Leake reached his half-century from 62 balls faced, and the pair eventually put on 132 runs before Wick was out in the 40th over, having scored a patient 42 runs. Leake was finally out in the 41st over for 82 from 88 balls faced, having hit 10 fours & 1 six in the process. Jamie Hart struck 19 from 15 balls before becoming Pearsons’ 2nd victim. Mark Concannon was also out stumped by Fradley as he tried to push the score along. Eventually, Kevin Joyce (9 not out) & Andy Sarratt (11 not out) took the score past the magic 200 mark in the final over, to leave Bitteswell a target of 202 for victory.
Jamie Hart & David Joyce opened the bowling for Broomleys & Joyce had Philpott trapped LBW in the 12th over with the score on 30. Hart then took 2 wickets in quick succession, with Andy Clifton taking a smart catch behind to dismiss Fradley & then to bowl Clarke for 0 in the same over. Broomleys looked to turn the match around at this point, with Kevin Joyce taking the 4th Bitteswell wicket in the next over when Dand was judged LBW the first ball he faced. It was not to be the visitors’ day though, and as Bitteswells’ Miller reached his half-century from 56 balls faced, he went on to lead the side to victory in the 41st over ending 85 not out. He was ably supported by Heavisides who was 39 not out. Broomleys will be hoping that the return of their opening batting partnership of Brotherhood & Bates next week will be the boost they need.
