Billesdon v Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 17 Jun 2006 at 2:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Lost by 6 Wickets
Match report
An away match at Billesdon saw Broomleys still missing key players from their squad. Captain on the day, David Bates, won the toss and elected to bat. Neil Brotherhood & David Wick made an excellent start and had put on 52 runs before Brotherhood was out in the 13th over having made 21. David Bates & David Wick had a fine partnership of 85, which saw Wick make his half-century from 75 balls faced, before being stumped in the 32nd over. His 66 runs came from 90 balls faced and included 11 fours & 1 well-timed 6. Bates also perished in the same over this time caught behind having reached 30. Paul Leake & Rob Hudson tried to increase the run rate, putting on 31 in 5 overs, but once they were dismissed, Broomleys had a batting collapse, going from 169 for 4 in the 36th over to 188 all out in the 45th. S Bhatt for Billesdon took 6 wickets for just 5 runs conceded in his second spell of bowling to end the innings with figures 10.5 overs, 2 maidens, 6 wickets for 44 runs.
The Broomleys bowlers tried every trick at their disposal, but were unable to make an early breakthrough. Once again David Joyce bowled tightly, giving away few runs, but was not rewarded with a wicket. Sandagar & Patel had put on 80 runs in 12 overs before Bates introduced Rob Hudson into the attack & was rewarded with a smart stumping by Jake Robinson to dismiss Sandagar for 37. The second wicket fell to Jamie Hart who bowled Patel 4 overs later, but Townley & Bhatt were soon on the attack. The pair put on a stand of 82 before an inspired bowling change & some quick thinking by Jake Robinson saw the demise of Townley. Paul Leake was brought into the attack & bowled a wide with his first ball. Townley had gone down the track to the ball & Robinson behind the pegs took the bales to claim his second stumping of the match. Leake made the most of the extra ball in the over & again Robinson obliged, this time taking a catch to dismiss Nourish. Despite loosing these 2 wickets, Billesdon were able to reach their target, with Bhatt hitting a 4 in the 32nd over to win the match & finish unbeaten on 42.
