Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI v Countesthorpe on Sun 25 Jun 2006 at 2:00
Match was Drawn Winning Draw

Match report Sunday saw Broomleys with a home match against division leaders, Countesthorpe. Batting first, Broomleys had a fine opening stand of 33 between Neil Brotherhood & Maurice Newman, which was broken when Newman was bowled out by Chandler in the 9th over. Brotherhood & Paul Leake made 56 before Leake was out caught behind in the 21st over with the score on 89. Brotherhood was back to his sparkling best and reached 50 from 58 balls faced, only to be trapped LBW by Leahy in the 24th over, adding only 3 more runs to his total. The highest partnership of the innings then ensued between Mark Pearce & his captain, David Bates. Pearce took control over the bowling, reaching his 50 from just 44 balls. Bates was finally dismissed in the 35th over, but not before he & Pearce had taken the score to 174 for 4. Pearce was not finished though & with the help of Rob Hudson, took the score past the magic 200 mark. Pearce was finally dismissed on 91 in the 41st over, he had hit just 68 balls, which included 12 fours & 5 massive sixes. Hudson was out in the same over, not to be outdone by his strike partner, taking his 20 runs from 20 balls. James Sharpe & John Cotton added 23 runs to the total in fine style before Cotton was bowled by Chandler & it was left to Sharpe who finished on 18 not out from 16 balls faced & Jon Orchiston on 1 not out, to bring the innings to a close on 258 for 7.
Broomleys had the best start they could possibly have had, when Mark Pearce opened the bowling & dismissed Pople for 0 with his second ball. Things didn’t all go the home-sides’ way, with an injury to Jon Orchiston early on & a partnership of 78 between Henfry & Chandler kept Countesthorpe in the hunt. A change of bowling say Chandler dismissed in the 14th over when David Bates took a catch off the bowling of Rob Hudson. Henfrey at the other end notched up his 50 from 72 balls & was instrumental in Countesthorpe staying in the hunt. Partnerships of 27, 48 40 & 27 were broken, but with Henfry still at the crease the match could have gone either way. Tight bowling by Kevin Wardle saw him take 3 wickets along with Mark Pearce, but Broomleys just could not take the final wicket that would have sealed the win. In the end they had to be content with a winning draw when Countesthorpe batted out the overs, ending on 243 for 9 from their 45 overs, with Henfrey carrying his bat & ending the match on 93 not out. Broomleys face Ibstock Town at Ibstock in the local derby next Saturday.
