Ibstock Town v Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 01 Jul 2006 at 11:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Won by 7 Wickets

Match report Broomleys were faced with a tough away match at local rivals, Ibstock Town, in the heat on Saturday. Winning the toss, Broomleys captain, Rob Hudson, elected to field first. Tight bowling from David Joyce & Jamie Hart gave them the start they wanted, but Mark Harrison & James Gregory for Ibstock managed to put on 89 runs for the first wicket. A change of pace in the bowling attack saw the breakthrough Broomleys wanted, with Rob Hudson taking a catch from Kevin Wardles first ball to dismiss Harrison in the 20th over. Gregory & Armston put on a further 39 runs in just 6 overs before another inspired bowling change saw Kevin Joyce brought into the attack. This saw the fall of 3 wickets in three successive Joyce overs, with Armston, Emery & finally Gregory all falling victim. Gregory had made 70 runs from 99 balls before Joyce claimed the wicket that left Ibstock on 132 for 4. Ibstock were not finished though & a partnership of 57 between Richard Grewcock & Harvey Mee took them to 189 in the 39th over, but Joyce struck for the 4th time when he clean bowled Grewcock. Excellent work behind the pegs by Jake Robinson saw the end of Mee 3 overs later, then Kevin Joyce claimed his 5th wicket of the match when he dismissed Adam Rennocks in the 45th over. Andrew McAllister finished on 16 not out, settting Broomleys a target of 247 for victory in their 45 overs.
Neil Brotherhood & Rob Hudson took the fight to the Ibstock bowlers from the start, with an opening stand of 74 in just 11 overs. Brotherhood was caught behind off the bowling of Rennocks, but not before he had reached 43 from 42 balls faced. Hudson & David Bates continued in the same vein, with a second wicket stand of 41 before Hudson was dismissed for 42 from 49 balls. Bates was then joined at the crease by in-form batsman, Mark Pearce and the pair were soon piling on the runs. Pearce took only 46 balls to reach yet another half-century, with Bates taking the singles to ensure his big-hitting partner got the strike as much as possible. Pearce was finally dismissed in the 39th over, but not before he had wreaked havoc, hitting 8 fours & 3 sixes to get to 74 runs from just 58 balls faced. Paul Leake & David Bates were determined to get the victory that Broomleys had come so close to all season, with Bates reaching his much-deserved half-century in 85 balls. Bates was given the honour of hitting the winning runs, with another 4 off the bowling of Lansdowne to seal the match.
