Match report Broomleys travelled to Ashby Hastings on the back of their victory over Ibstock the previous weekhoping to continue in the same vein. Ashby won the toss and elected to field first. Their tactic soon paid off with Matt Ryan taking 2 wickets in his second over. Rob Hudson & Mark Pearce battled through some fierce bowling, putting on 34 runs before Pearce became Ryans’ 3rd victim. Ryan added to his tally dismissing Sharpe & Newman for the addition of just 6 runs to reduce Broomleys to 46 for 5 in the 15th over. Hudson battled on, taking runs where he could off the other bowlers. Mark Concannon was the 6th wicket to fall when he was bowled by Luke Barlow. Jamie Hart joined his captain at the wicket and the pair tried to take the score on. Hudson was finally dismissed in the 28th over, but not before he had reached 44. Jamie Hart & Kevin Joyce came together with the score on 80 for 7 and set about the bowling attack. Hart reached his half-century from just 58 balls faced, bringing up the mile-stone with 2 consecutive sixes, and with Joyce also taking advantage of some looser bowling, the pair put on 67 runs before Joyce was out. Joyce had scored a creditable 28 runs from 28 balls faced. Matt Ryan was bought back into the attack and claimed his 6th victim of the match when the bowled Jake Robinson. Hart and Wardle continued to take Broomleys towards maximum batting points, the pair coming together with the score on 152 in the 39th over, they managed to take the score to 200 before Hart finally succumbing on 71, Ryan taking his 7th wicket of the match to end with figures of 16.3 overs, 1 maiden, 7 wickets for 68 runs.
Broomleys managed to contain the Ashby opening pair of Tom Yates & Adam Hoult, but could not get the wicket they deserved for their effort. The Ashby pair put on 104 for the first wicket, Yates was finally out in the 28th over, caught & bowled by Mark Pearce. Pearce took his & Broomleys’ only other wicket of the match in the 30th over, when he had Hoult caught behind by Jake Robinson. The match was still in the balance, Hunt and Carline took on the bowlers to take the win in the 43rd over. Hunt finished the match on 61 not out from just 49 balls faced.
