Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI v Newtown Linford on Sat 15 Jul 2006 at 2:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Lost by 34 runs

Match report A home tie against Newtown Linford saw Broomleys fielding first on a hot Saturday.
Mark Concannon struck early for Broomleys when David Wick took a looping catch to dismiss Moult in the second over of the match. Concannon then took a catch off the bowling of Kevin Joyce to reduce the visitors to 22 for 2 in the 9th over. Wood & Bulpitt batted steadily for the visitors, putting on 53 for the 3rd wicket before Wood was smartly stumped by Jake Robinson off his captains bowling. Robinson had his second stumping of the day when he dismissed Bulpitt, but not before the Newtown batsman had hit 71 runs from 76 balls, taking them to 142 for 4 in 38 overs, a stand of 67 with Bates. Paul Bates & Harrison carried on piling on the runs & with a 5th wicket partnership of 53, Harrison was run out on 32 from 22 balls in the last over of the innings, leaving Bates on 45 not out and setting Broomleys a target of 197 for victory.
Broomleys could not have had a worse start with the 6 top-order batsmen all being dismissed in swift succession. With only David Wick (20) & David Bates (10) managing double figures, Broomleys were soon struggling on 49 for 6 after 15 overs. It was left to James Sharpe & Mark Concannon to try to rebuild the innings, which they did admirably. The pair put on 76 for the 7th wicket and restored some pride to the home side. Sharpe batted patiently, taking advantage of the loose balls when they came, with his senior partner, Concannon, doing the same at the other end. The partnership was broken when Concannon was judged LBW in the 31st over having reached 29 from 36 balls. Kendrick was also given out LBW in the same over, leaving Broomleys on 125 for 8 at the end of the 31st. Sharpe had not finished though, and with the help of Jake Robinson, continued to push on towards the target. He reached his first senior half-century for the club from 84 balls, much to the delight of the watching supporters. Unfortunately, it was not enough to save Broomleys from defeat. With Robinson dismissed in the 40th over, Kevin Wardle was the last man in. He and Sharpe survived to the end of the over. Sharpe was finally dismissed for 59 in the 42nd over, when Geary took his 4th catch of the match to claim the victory for Newtown Linford.
