Earl Shilton Town v Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 19 Aug 2006 at 1:30
Match was Drawn Losing Draw - Rain affected

Match report Having been put in to bat on a damp pitch at Earl Shilton, Broomleys lost their first wicket in the 8th over when captain, Rob Hudson was dismissed for 5. Neil Brotherhood and David Bates toiled away in difficult conditions, with Brotherhood reaching his 5th half-century of the season from 76 balls faced. The pair took the score to 129 in the 34th over before Brotherhood was finally dismissed by the Earl Shilton captain, Tim Higgins, for 74. Bates battled on with the help of Mark Pearce, but when he was dismissed for 42 this triggered a middle-order collapse. Broomleys lost a further 5 wickets for the addition of just 14 runs, with Higgins, Chamberlain and Turrell taking 2 wickets each for Earl Shilton, and 2 run-outs occurring as Broomleys tried to take the score as close to 200 as possible with Broomleys finally ending their innings on 180 for 8.
As the skies around Earl Shilton turned black, Holmes and Ladkin for the home side had one eye on the weather and 1 eye on the Broomleys 20-over score of 72 runs, the required number of overs required to make a match. The pair took advantage of some poor Broomleys fielding to press home the advantage, putting on 56 runs in 15 overs for the first wicket. Ladkin was out to a fine catch from Rob Hudson off the bowling of David Joyce, but his opposite number Higgins was not to be out-done. Higgins smashed his way to 50 from just 36 balls faced before being caught by David Wick off Kevin Wardles’ bowling. The damage had been done and he had taken the score on to 120 in 25 overs. Wardle continued to bowl tightly and was unfortunate not to take more wickets. As the storm clouds gathered, Broomleys re-introduced Elson Johnson into the attack from the pavilion end. The change of end worked and he took 3 wickets in 3 overs to peg Earl Shilton back to 138 for 5 in the 32nd over. Unfortunately, only 4 more overs play was possible before the rain set in and Keith Towers the standing umpire decided that the match had to be called off. Earl Shilton finished on 154 for 5 and took 12 points from the match whilst Broomleys took 10 valuable points to ease their relegation worries.
