Match report Broomleys won the toss and elected to field first on a damp & overcast day. The decision paid off when Billedsdon opener, Sondagar, was caught by Kevin Joyce off the bowling of Elson Johnson in the first over. Patel & Quadri put on 68 for the second wicket before Kevin Joyce struck again, this time when he bowled Quadri in the 23rd over. The Joyce brothers were in the thick of the action as David Joyce took 2 wickets to reduce Billesdon to 90 for 4 in the 30th over. A 5th wicket partnership between Elliot & Naik saw a flurry of boundaries as the pair put on 81 in less than 11 overs. The partnership was finally broken when Kevin Wardle was brought into the attack. Wardle dismissed Elliot for 47 with the 2nd ball he bowled at him, David Joyce taking a smart catch. The dismissal of Elliot was followed by the fall of Naik for 44 in the following over, caught by Mark Pearce off Rob Hudsons bowling. Wardle and Hudson took further wickets and restricted Billesdon to 194 for 9 from their 45 overs, Wardle ending with figures of 3 overs, 0 maidens, 3 wickets for 10 runs conceded.
Neil Brotherhood & David Wick made a good start, putting on 30 in the 1st 8 overs. This momentum was soon halted when 3 wickets fell in quick succession when Brotherhood, Wick & Sharpe were dismissed. Mark Pearce & David Bates, again showed their class, putting on 36 before Pearce was out in the 27th over. Rob Hudson & Jamie Hart were both dismissed cheaply, whilst Bates could only watch helplessly from the other end. When he was joined at the crease by Kevin Joyce, the home side were struggling on 87 for 6 in the 31st over, needing to score at nearly 8 runs per over to win. The pair were soon piling on the runs and the pressure on the Billesdon fielders, forcing errors and taking runs at will. As David Bates reached his half-century from 65 balls faced, he and Joyce were easily exceeding the required rate. The pair took Broomleys to within sight of victory, wanting just 1 run to win with an over & 2 balls remaining, but when Naik came back into the attack he dismissed Joyce with the last ball of his over. Joyce had made a valuable contribution of 47 runs from 45 balls faced. Bates faced the final over with only 1 run required, he smashed the 3rd ball of the over to the boundary to seal the victory and end on 72 not out.
