Kegworth v Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 26 Apr 2008 at 2:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Lost By 6 wickets
Match report
Broomleys vs. Kegworth 26-04-08
Broomleys set out full of enthusiasm for the 2008 season, under new captain Guy Collier. However Collier didn’t start well losing the toss with Broomleys being asked to bat.
After a steady first 9 over David Bates was removed after a good low catch at second slip. Following Bates was procession of Broomleys wickets with Mursaleen and Collier departing without scoring and Pearce making just a one. Despite a collapse to 60-4 Broomleys’ dug in with both Pitt and Hudson having their share of luck. The two left handed batsmen got stuck in to rebuild the innings and when Pitt was dismissed for 70 Broomleys had moved onto 105-5. Some late hitting from Nash(22) and Joyce (17no) saw the Broomleys total pushed up to a competitive 173-9 on a difficult wicket.
Having put a good total on the board Broomleys let their advantage slip as openers Mursaleen and Carlson gave away too many runs. At 57-0 off 12 overs Kegworth were easily on top and didn’t look like slipping. However the introduction of Chambers (7-0-16-0) and Joyce (8.5-2-36-2) soon saw the breakthrough as the pair worked in tandem to frustrate the Kegworth openers and strangle the run rate.
The off-spin of Sam Platts also saw results as he claimed 2-21. Unfortunately though the damage was already done and Kegworth were able to make it home with 2 overs to spare.
A disappointing start for Collier’s men and they will be looking to get their first win in a home encounter with Shepshed Messengers on Saturday.
