Broomleys Cricket Club 1st XI v LCOB on Sat 19 Apr 2008 at 2:00
Broomleys Cricket Club Won By 10 Wickets
Match report
On a cold April Saturday Broomleys first eleven began their 2008 campaign with a friendly against Loughborough Carillon Old Boys.
Having won the toss Guy Collier chose to bowl on a wicket that looked as though it would favour the bowlers.
After a few early season loosening overs Broomleys had their first breakthrough with Luke Mursaleen removing Handara in the 6th over. He was followed not long after by Bailey as Mursaleen claimed his second victim for Broomleys bowling seam.
A regular procession of Old Boys wickets fell over the next 15 overs with wickets being taken by Phil Nash (2-12), Sam Platts (2-31) and Sam Chambers (1-8). However the visitors did manage to string a late partnership together as Hardie and Jones struck out to boost the total. Yet it didn’t last as with his first delivery young seamer David Broster removed Hardie for 28 whilst Jones was stumped off the leg spin of Mursaleen who finished with figures of 3 for 6 off six overs. The final wicket was claimed by Broster as Platts took a comfortable catch. The Old Boys innings ended in the 36th over with just 88 on the scoreboard.
Broomleys’ chase began solidly as there were early blows dealt by both opening batsmen Pitt and Bates. As the score moved quickly along it was wicket keeper Pitt who took centre stage with regular boundaries all around the Blackwood ground. Both players made quick progress and took just 12 overs too knock off the required amount with Pitt finishing on 51 not out off 50 balls whilst Bates had made a strong 29 from as many balls.
A good start for the Broomleys men as they go into the first league game, away to Kegworth, with a positive feeling within.
