Broomleys Cricket Club 2nd XI v Loughborough Outwoods 1st XI on Sat 16 May 2009 at 2.00
Match was Drawn Losing draw
Match report
Broomleys welcomed Loughborough Outwoods to Blackwood on a wet a windy afternoon. After several heavy showers play got underway on time with Broomleys winning the toss and bowling. In form opening bowler Broster removed both openers either side of a break for rain to leave them well placed. Another rain delay meant the match was reduced to 40 overs per side and Outwoods began to pick up the pace. Left arm spinner Warren Birchall returning to the club after 6 years removed Rowlands thanks to a fine running catch by skipper Hextall. Number 3 Davey was eventually bowled by Bingley for 67 as Outwoods closed on a competetive 202 for 8 with Sam Bingley picking up 4 for 33.
The Broomleys replay got off to a sedate start with Stanwix and Gibbons giving nothing away early on. Stanwix then removed Barton and Billy Read in quick succesion and then removed Ian Read and Mark Concannon to leave Broomleys struggling at 29 for 4. Skipper Hextall combined with Jack Chambers to put on 98 for the 5th wicket to give Broomleys a figthting chance but when Hextall departed for 38 the game was all but up for Broomleys as they had to settle for a losing draw closing on 138 for 7. A mention for opening bowler Stanwix who picked up 7 for 36 from his 16 overs.
