Cropston 2nd XI v Broomleys Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 23 May 2009 at 2.00
Broomleys Cricket Club Won by 76 runs
Match report
Broomleys 2nd XI travelled to Cropston on Saturday looking to get their league campaign back on track. Broomleys lost the toss and were invited to bat first on a dry but wearing track. Broomleys openers Newman and Barton looked comfortable as they put on 70 for the first wicket to set a solid foundation for the innings. A mini collapse soon followed though as both openers fell along with skipper Hextall to leave them wobbling at 86 for 3. Andy Sarratt at the other end was showing what good form hes on just lately as he cut and drove his way to a solid 42 which paved the way to a respectable total of 169. A mention for Hibbert of Cropston who bowled unchanged from one end taking 5 for 66.
Broomleys knew that if they got the ball in the right areas then the wearing pitch would do the rest and they did so in fine style. Tom Grainger had opener knowles caught at slip by one the leapt off a length and Broster claimed a wicket in his second over. The wickets continued to tumble at a steady rate as Grainger claimed 3 for 26 and Broster 4 for 23 to all but end Cropstons hopes of a draw. Warren Birchall polished off the innings with 2 wickets and Cropston were all out for 93 leaving Broomleys winners by 76 runs.
